High end designer bags sell well on ebay. But like every other transaction on ebay, keep in mind that you make half your money by procuring products at a low cost and not necessarily when you are selling in a market place like ebay. We sell high end designer branded handbags like MK, DKNY, Longchamp on ebay.
The good things about ebay is that you are posting your sale to people who are in the end of the sales conversion cycle (i.e. they come to ebay to shop which means they know what they want + they have money to spend). The bad thing (not so bad actually) is that you end up paying significant fees to ebay. On an average you pay 9% of your sale price for handbags (not your profit margin but your sale price). For example, I recently sold a Longchamp Leather Tote. MSRP tag was $585. My offering price was $410. Why this low? Because I wish to make money fast and churn more sales cycles as opposed to waiting for the $50. If assuming my purchase price was say $220, then my net cashflow would be as follows -
Sales Income = $410
Shipping Income = $12
**Total Income = $422**
COGS = ($220)
Ebay Fees = ($36.90)
Paypal Fees = ($12.53) (calculated as 2.9%+30 cents on funds recd. In this the buyer would had sent you $422 incl shipping)
Shipping Fee = ($3) (approx. Ebay started charging this fee last year I guess)
**Total Cost = ($272.43)**
**Net Profit = $149.57** (Your actual cash on hand from paypal to your bank account)
As you can see above you could make a good amount of money ($150) in profit in this transaction but then, it's only bcoz you sourced the product at low cost.
Another IMPT aspect to keep in mind - COACH products are restricted to be sold in ebay or any other online channel. There have been numerous cases where Coach is known to have tracked down the seller and sent them a legal notice + banned them from entering any coach stores across the country (not sure how they would enforce that though). Despite this many people sell coach bags on ebay (I used to) and I still can continue to. The problem is if I'm hit with a legal notice, then my supplier might back out (not just for coach) for potentially all products. So its a big risk.
Hope this helps. If you need more info, do feel free to reach out to me. Happy to help. Thanks!
Hi
I don't speak English. I use Google translator. I was reading an interesting article Ebay. You had said you would help if I needed guidance. I sold on ebay and have no traffic on ebay. On ebay sellers compete. I have tried to sell video game and I was made impossible by the competitive prices.
As I can get traffic?
What products are sold more on ebay?
Thanks
Hello Malva - Language is not a barrier! Thanks to Google Translator :) I see and feel your pain. The first deal I did on ebay was a handbag. Net off after costs, I made 2.53$ loss on the transaction :( But then grew to be wiser. There are 2 options to find out what sells on ebay and at what price-
a) OPTION A" Your own research: Ebay has simplistic tools to perform your research. For example - I did a quick search now on Ebay for Video Games and the default "best match" criteria of ebay returned me the auctions to be sending soon. For you to perform your research follow these simple steps...
1) In ebay seach, put in your keyword (please be as specific as possible)
2) When the results are returned, look at the left panel and see the options provided. You should see options on the left panel for video games. "Platform", "Sports Sub Genre", "Genre", "Condition (New / Used)" and so on. Select as appropriate. If you scroll further down, you would see an option called "Show Only". Click on "Sold Listings" options.
3) Based on the parameters you have provided, Ebay algorithm should show you the listings that have been sold in the past for the "video game" category.
4) Go to the top of the page now and you will see a "Sort" drop down function which would have defaulted to "Best Match". Click on it and Select "Price+Shipping: Highest First". The first result that came up was "NES Nintendo Stadium Events CIB Complete in Box NORTH AMERICAN NTSC VERSION" and the selling price was US$75,000 :) ....phew.....Thats some crazy money for a game... Impt point to note is how the listing looks and which category it has been posted in. This listing was posted under following category path "Video Games & Consoles>Video Games"
Run through the first 5-10 listings in there and make note of what and how things have been posted. Now replicate this for your "video game selling"
B) PAID SERVICES: SIGN UP FOR TERAPEAK or given that you are a member in Salehoo, sign up for the Salehoo Labs and look up their research. I havent found it very useful in the past but atleast it should give you a broad idea of the analytics involved.....
The Key to making a good sale is research. So invest time into it. Replicate listings of top sellers. On the backend, also ensure that you keep buying penny auctions at 99 cents or so to keep your feedback score and ratings on the rise.
I hope this helps. Feel, free to ask more questions. No question is a stupid question. We all learnt from our mistakes and are happy to help you not make one! Good luck and God Bless.
