Securing my online store

Hello,

I have an open source ecommerce store that is about to launch and was wondering about what measures other people have taken to secure their sites?

I do plan on getting an SSL certificate to secure my checkout process, but what other options do I have that are cost effective? I was actually looking for more info on the SSL certificate and since I had previously purchased sitelock (for $12) for another site, I called them to see what my options were. They spoke about getting a scanner and firewall through them that costs a total of $1100!!!

I'm still in research mode, so I didn't bite THAT bullet...But can anyone recommend a great option that won't cost so much, especially since I'm just starting out? Also, do you guys think getting a firewall/ scanner combo option is even necessary now?

Hello Malorie,

Getting a firewall and/or scanner is just secondary. Your primary concern should be getting the SSL certificate for your store. There are many types of SSL, 256-bit encryption is the most secure but is also the most expensive.
