Is selling fake electronics accepted?

Hello Everyone,

I have a question and I would really appreciate some input/opinions/comments on it.

I have been searching in China for products to sell, mainly electronics, but most of the suppliers are offering fake non-original goods and their saying that a lot of people are buying them and selling them in the North American market as original ones.

My question is isn't that illegal for someone to buy a fake good and sell it as the original one?

There are things like patents put into place to prevent sales like that, but at the same time there are A LOT of online sellers who are engaged in this.

I want to know if the law will really come down on me if I import the fake good, but sell it as the fake good as well, meaning mention in the description that the product is not original, but will deliver the same performance.

I would really appreciate any thoughts or opinions.

Fake is fake, whether you sell it as if the product was original or sell it as an outright fake, the fact remains that you are selling a fake. Yes you could get in a lot of trouble importing counterfeit products, customs may intercept your package and you will surely get more than you asked for.

If you want to source your products in China, that is perfectly okay. In fact, China is one of the best and cheapest places to source for products. Just be sure you don't get anything branded otherwise you'll end up with fakes and copies of the real thing!

To answer your question - YES it is illegal to buy fakes period and some countries are very strict about this.

Although not all get caught, I still don't think its worth all the risk.

Hi Narbeh, and welcome to the site.

Richelle's advise is rock solid. Yes, people do trade in fake branded items and not all get caught, but when they do get caught the penalty can be quite severe and it's not something I would ever suggest anyone does personally.

Never be fooled by any Chinese supplier, you can simply not purchase authentic branded products from China, no matter what a supplier tells you!

Non-branded products, as Richelle said, it is hard to find a better country to source from than China. That said, you still need to do your research on the suppliers and not all are trustworthy and will be happy to take your cash and run.
