Dropshipping?

I'm quite brand new to this whole reselling thing, and was thinking to start with dropshipping. The whole concept has got me rather baffled at this point, however. I get the idea, but I just don't understand how you do it.

Any dropship websites I visit seem to be just your average shopping-type thing, where you purchase the item, etc. Is there something special you have to do? What are the steps taken?

I'm sorry if I sound kind of ignorant :)

But do I have to buy or 'reserve' a product before listing it? Or do I just post the info and buy it when the buyer has bought it? (hah, try saying that five times fast)

From what I've read, this does seem to be the case, but I just want to be sure before I do...

That is the purpose of dropshipping. To obtain sale or pre-sale and then with the monies just paid, then order and the dropshipper does the shipping for you.
