Opening a merchant account to use on eBay

Hello. I just opened a merchant account to use on eBay. It's through merchantsinc I have already linked it to my eBay account but I have a few questions. Hopefully someone that has experience with them can help me.

*In the products tab it says I need to import my products to the shopping cart. Do I have to upload every item I want to sell?

*How do I put items up for auction on ebay? Through the shopping cart or do I just normally list like I would on eBay?

* Is there a way for me to create a 'Click here for payment' button to use on my auctions? How do I do that?

*eBay is telling me that in order for me to take credit cards through a merchant account I have to send them my last merchant account statement. I don't have one so how can I send them that? Is that standard procedure?

* The shopping cart gives you a code to paste on your auctions for payment. Any suggestions on where to put it? Like at the beginning of the auction or at the end & can someone show me an example of what it should look like?

Hi,

I am an eBay Premium store merchant.

You would have been better off opening a store merchant account directly with Pay Pal and then linking Pay Pals buy it now or pay now option to your site. This way you can except credit cards using there system and not have to verify all of your previous transactions and history with them or upload all of you items for sale with them. They are very suspicious of people that do not have a lengthy history of sales with another merchant account and they wont give you buyer protection for any transactions with a linked account or limited protection without an established history. I have done it and they are very picky and finicky when they don't have full control of the transaction. That is why I had to open an business account with Pay Pal directly. Contrary to others opinions here on the forums I have not had a bad experience with them. You will also be able to post directly with eBay without registering all of your products with Pay Pal via there sellers platform or ebay's Turbo Lister. That is a free product that allows you to bulk list from your PC without having to list each item directly available on eBay website. You will also have the option of whether or not to use Pay Pal to pay for each item that you sell. Where as with an outside merchant account you are at Pay Pals mercy with all or most of your transactions.

Answers to your questions:

With your current merchant configuration with Pay Pal yes you would have to upload every item you want to sell with Pay Pal if you want to use there payment service.

You would have to put all items up with the shopping cart if you want to use Pay pal for payment.

As far as the 'Buy it now' Option you would have to consult Pay Pal with that one I have not used that feature with an outside merchant account.

I have dealt with the code that you are talking about and here is the deal. The code can not be used on eBay. The code is meant for people who have there own website and have access to there HTML that was used to create the site. (DOS COMMANDS). EBay is a web server that allows you to use templates that they establish and provide you to list items for sale in a shopping cart format. You have limited to no access to insert or modify the program to put in tags or credit card links. Only access you have is to modify page headers and descriptions and that is limited. Nor do they allow you to track site traffic or sales traffic using an outside of eBay service because that also requires you to paste a tag in the HTML codes. The way I was able to track my sales was to become a premium merchant and it comes with the package.

dnldcart2007 so basically your saying and answering known questions. Paypal has to be in full controll of every transaction. Wether you use thier basic services or thier merchant services.

Thie grand merchant services just had a Fee increase. Now thier charging big sellers even more then before. Plus you have to manually enter all your products.Just like any other Merchant account.

Paypal Uses first data to transmit all thier credit card transactions. Then they bump the fees and charge a monthly fee on this service , and a transaction fee 35 cents or so and of course thier percentage fee.

Basically what you stated in your post is exactly what a person with a real merchant account has. Except one major issue. Paypal has no buyer protection. That is a total advertising scam. According to the FDIC a consumer is only responsible for $50 of a fradulant transaction. Many times a bank will pay this $50.00 as a benifit to thier own members that use credit cards.

So of couse paypal can offer up to $5,000 in buyer protection because paypal only has to cover $50.00 if something goes wrong, just like any bank would do for free. This $50.00 is of course paid for by the sellers with paypals high fees. This buyer protection of $5,000 is just an advertising tactic.

I know this is is supposed to be convenient. But you still have to worry about your account being frozen. Because Yet again PAYPAL IS IN CONTROL OF YOUR MONEY. And they have control of your bank account. They can withdraw every penny out of your bank account on a whim because you agree to this in your user agreement.

I used to find paypal convenient untill they froze my account that had 23,000 in it. It almost cost me my business, and I started doing research and found out I was not alone. And that I was just like over a million people that had been screwed by paypal.

And now I find it funny when people defend them saying I have not had the problems with paypal that some have had. Its not a matter of IF its a matter of WHEN. I used to tell members the same punchline. 'I have had no problems with them'

Trust me I know more about paypals tricks then probably thier own staff. I spent countless hours researching paypal and the scams they pull on people.

And you wonder why some of the biggest online companies do not use paypal.

Get a real merchant account. AND DONT CROSS YOUR FINGERS AND HOPE THAT ONE DAY YOU DONT BECOME A VICTIM.

OK then can you give some ideas on what merchant accounts to look at? As I said I have not had any problems yet. But I may not be using there services that often. My sales may not be high enough for them to bother with me yet. Let me know what you think.

I have been using first data. You can sign up with them directly or you can use merchantinc.com

So far I have done about 2,000 flawless transactions with them. If you dont do much high volme you can use thier free shopping cart. If you do alot of sales like I do then going for the advanced shopping cart would be a good route. I used to pay paypal thousands in fees. Those fees were literally cut in half by using a merchant account.

You can use any merchant account you want. Just make sure you use a shopping cart that can link to ebay. There are many shopping carts out there that can do this for you. And some are free.
