Hey Guys,

I have 1000 units of inventory that I need to liquidate. The retail value of the product is $100k and I would like to unload it for 20% of that, 20k. Can anyone recommend any solid liquidators that won't lowball me. At 20% there is plenty of room here for them to double the investment so I don't want to waste time with lowballers.

Has anyone had experience liquidating inventory and if so with whom. The product is broken down into 3 sku's.

Hi Phil,

The only options I can think of really come down to checking with liquidators in your local area, but I seriously doubt if they would go up to 20% on retail. You could of course approach retail outlets directly, but perhaps listing on eBay as wholesale lots or even using something like eBay's group (daily) deals format to try and distribute through there if you qualify, but you would have to break those lots down by quite a bit I would imagine.

Do you have many weekend markets in your area, you may find vendors there interested or even ones that are happy to take your products on consignment,

Good luck with it.

Do you have an idea what's the average recovery? I'd still make very little profit at 20% so i'm willing to go down more to get the items moved.

Recovery rate will depend on your market. For example, retail avenues would offer the most potential, where as liquidating would be at the lower end of the scale. Of course the liquidation would clear your stock to produce cashflow, where as retail avenues would be much, much slower, but net a better end result.

So you really need to decide what's more important for you, clearing stock asap or making margin over an extended time frame. That will then give you the answer on the target market you want to approach. Then if that approach doesn't bare the kind of fruit you want, you always have the fall back position you can follow up with.

Maybe even split the two. A combination of quick liquidation of some stock for some cashflow, along with a retail strategy to bulk up the net margin.

Cheers
