I personally (not the company I represent on here) have dealt with GoDaddy for many years. I am actually a web developer. I try to purchase all of my domains through GoDaddy, and have all of my web clients do so as well. For Domain Names I find them to have the best prices (and you can usually find a coupon online for at least a few $ off), and the ability to make the most changes or additions to your Domain Name settings. This is especially helpful for my clients because I like to use Google Apps as their email provider.
I dropped GoDaddy as my hosting provider about a year ago. They just turned my hosting account off, and then held my site, and my clients sites hostage (they wanted $150/hr to "recover" my sites and hand them over). Luckily I did practice backing up, and so not much data was lost. My largest ecommerce client suffered the most, but they are now back on track.
Having said all of this, I would say to go ahead with the Domain Names, but don't use them for anything else.
