Are tax ID and business ID required for a Canadian?

If I live in Canada and I am trying to do business with an American Company that requires a business license, business id or tax id. Will I need to have one or is this required for Americans only?

It's from American customers. Just contact their accounts department and inform them you are from Canada and they will tell you what they will be happy to accept.

Hi,

It would usually be the Canadian equivalent of the Tax ID for US citizens. You may want to check with your local government office for more info, there are also blogs discussing this all sorts of questions for a foreigner interested in doing business in the US.
