What price is reflected on the dropshipper's invoice?

Hello.

Firstly, sorry for my English, it's not my native language.

I have researched about this on various forums and got some knowledge including;

-Some drop shipping companies ship the product on behalf of drop shipper and do not put their own logo or company name to package. Some of them even put your company's logo on the package and your companies name on the invoice.

The question is ; (as in the title)

-Do drop shipping companies send an invoice to final customer? If so, what price is written on the invoice, the companies price or the retail price in which the drop shipper's profit included?

In answer to your question, the item that is sent to your customer is sent with no invoice at all. The invoice is sent to you, as you are their customer. It's then up to you to invoice your customer for their order.

Thank you for your answer. I have another question at this point. Here in Turkey for example, you have to submit your invoice as well as your warranty certificate in case of any trouble. I want to dropship some luxury watches so it is important. What is the case in USA or UK? Isn't it a must to have an invoice with warranty certificate? If not, what do you think about the percentage of people who wants to see the invoice with their product in those countries?

Hi Yasin,

If you mean to submit for a warranty claim if something goes wrong, then that is how everyone has to do it. If this is a concern to you and you are going to be dropshipping internationally, then you should make sure of how any warranty claims on products your supplier provides you need to be processed or in in fact they provide a warranty at all.

Something like this may be different between suppliers.

I think I couldn't express myself. I don't actually want to dropship internationally. However it was the case in my country, Turkey. Here in Turkey, you must have two documents/certificates to submit for a warranty claim. One of them is the document which gives information about warranty period(warranty certificate) and the other one is purchase "invoice". So, if you don't have the invoice, warranty certificate is not enough itself. In this case, it is a serious problem not to send an invoice to the customer because they cannot submit for a warranty. It is also a serious problem to send the original invoice because of the price on it.

Well, most probably this is not the procedure in USA and UK. I want to learn how it works in these countries, how people submit for a warranty?

My other question was not answered by the way :) Let me ask it differently; What is the function of an invoice in USA and UK, and, is it important for luxury watch consumers specifically?

Hi Yasin

An invoice is exactly the same in any country. It is a proof of purchase. That's why it's required when making a warranty claim, it proves the person is the original purchaser and it was purchased as a new product and it shows the date it was purchased and that then determines whether of not a warranty is valid.

Now in some cases in some countries, an invoice (proof of purchase) can be enough to claim a warranty. However, on products that actually come with a specific warranty document, then that document must be used along with the invoice (proof of purchase) to file a claim. Having one without the other, as it is in Turkey, will mean a warranty claim can be rejected.

Of course different countries have different protective consumer rights in place as well. So this can give the consumer an added layer of protection when they have a problem. They may not even have to file a warranty claim, the supplier may in fact just replace or refund on the spot, but that comes down to what the consumer rights and the suppliers policies actually are.

Thank you for your answer. So how can we solve this price difference problem? What do dropshippers do now? You said in your first post that the item is sent with no invoice to my customer but sent to me since I am their customer. So isn't it a problem for "my" customer? What is the current practice in drop shipping world? How do they handle this problem?

Hi Yasin,

There is no price difference where your customer is concerned. The standard practice for dropping would be for you to email the customer an invoice for the sale at the time of the sale. The supplier will them email you their invoice directly and not send any invoice at all to the buyer.

In regards to actual warranty cards, that is something you will need to discuss with your actual supplier/s. You firstly need to know what products come with warranties and then how the warranties on those products are processed. For example, can the item be taken to a local agent for repair, is it return to base only and so on.

Hi Marc,

Electronical invoice is newly getting used in Turkey and it is not that easy. So, consider that I have bought a watch from the dropshipping company for $100 and sold it for $150. If I redirect the invoice to my customer, he will see $100 on the invoice. That is what I mean by price difference. If I generate a printed invoice it is so difficult to send them to my customers. However, I understand from your explanation that I have to create my own invoice if I want to send an invoice. The only thing I can do here is to scan the printed invoice which I create and sent it to my customer. Does it count as an electronical invoice?

So, let me learn how wide it is not no send an invoice at all? What will be the customer's reaction? And do dropshippers like me do what exactly you said? I mean sending their own invoice to the customer and receiving their invoice from the dropshipping company?

You can't redirect the suppliers invoice to your customer. Essentially the process works like this. When you dropship, you are the supplier and the buyer is your customer. Then you are the dropshipper's customer, so to them, you are the buyer. So all the dots never connect, there are two completely separate entities at work.

Anything sent via email is considered an electronic invoice, doesn't matter if you scan or make one yourself on the PC. If that's a problem, then you could of course just simply write one out and mail it to your customer.

I would say it's pretty well international standard to invoice a customer. Some customers may not require an invoice, so perhaps you could just ask them after the purchase if they would like you to send them one. Some may well just say no, but I'm sure some will prefer to have one sent.
