Hello again Alan,
I will try my best to address your concerns, kindly refer to my answers below -
1: If I research "Turnkey Shops" on SaleHoo I get negtive feedback responses on forum posts. Perhaps this is a problem of word usage.
In the EBook - The Ebay Fortune Guide - it is recomended. Why?
I haven't read The eBay Fortune Guide so I cannot comment as to why they recommend turnkey stores.
But at SaleHoo we feel that turnkey stores do not necessarily provide the most profitable products to resell thus do not recommend them.
The idea of selling preloaded stores may sound appealing we still would not recommend it. The reason being that you have absolutely no way of distinguishing yourself from the hundreds of other sellers using the same tool or host selling the same products!
If your titles are the same, your pictures are the same, your description is the same, the shipping and service is the same – what is your competitive advantage? Where is your unique selling point?
You might get a couple of sales if you are lucky, but it’s not a workable model for building an ongoing profitable venture. That’s just our 2 cents!

It depends on how large your store will be, if you're planning on setting up a store with different products and product categories, then we suggest you use zencart since it's designed for ecommerce/online selling.
Unlike Wordpress which is designed for blogging. But if its just a small store offering a few products, then you can just go with Wordpress.
4: Or should I buy a expensive e-commerce solution?
The decision is yours but why buy an expensive ecommerce solution, when you can check out
