They are right, market is saturated with fakes, and I suspect that effects the price on ebay as well to be honest.
Not sure why they would phase them out, I mean if they are buying from a authorised distribution source then they would be in no risk of buying fakes!
That part of their story has a strange smell about it, but if you're confident that what they have currently are genuine, maybe make an offer to take the stock off their hands.
Gets them out of the market if that's what they want, and you might be able to negotiate yourself a good liquidated price on the stock.
Just make sure there genuine, from what you have written I'm not convinced personally!
