How do people dropship and make a profit?

Hello all, my wife and I are trying to get started on the dropshipping circut. We got onto the site and are looking for what to start with and none of the prices we've found so far can beat what is for sale on ebay already! What are we missing? Are the sellers getting better deals due to volume sales or do they have cheaper sources or what?! Please, if anyone can help us please let us know, I recently got laid off and need something to keep from losing my house soon!

It's going to be tough to dropship on eBay. First of all almost everyone that uses these dropship companies are selling the product on eBay. This makes the market so saturated with these products it's almost impossible to make a profit. Then you have a lot of the dropshippers themselves selling on eBay as well. Just do a search on eBay on one of the products you are trying to sell and see how many others are selling the same product. You also have to factor in the dropship fees, shipping, eBay fees, and PayPal fees! When it's all said and done your left with little or nothing at all. If you really want to dropship then I would suggest starting your own website. These types of items will do much better there.

Yeah, start your own website and pretty much depending on where you go with it dropshipping is best done on Amazon. Or craigslist, or IOFFER and other direct sales OUTLETS.

It's even very good to do such things on Godaddy marketplace, I love that service even with it being so new. Basically, its probably good for ecommerce in general.

Your at such a disadvantage dropshipping on eBay due to all the seller policy changes. buyers are leaving negs for such stupid reasons its almost not worth even selling at all.

Buuuut, if you have product on hand then its ok if you get the stuff out ASAP and kiss the buyers butt.

Yeah, and it is basically eBay's fault anyhow. Since eBay has NEVER been a good place for drop-shipping they just didn't tell you this.

The problem was eBay has been overly deceitful in the purposes behind their 'services', and not admitted that most retailers also dump all their wholesale goods on eBay so its more of an open liquidate site.

Liquidations are perfect for eBay. But NOT all the false hype about dropshipping on eBay. For *CERTAIN* products, in tenure, it would always be true inter-alia perfume could be constantly a good drop ship on eBay.

But only those categories & you have to bend over backwards.

I didn't realize this in beginning when I was at, basically eBay and craigslist. I thought Jimmy might be pulling my chain re: difficulty of getting good rates on eBay.

Was when I got off it and did alot more instead on Amazon and elsewhere that I saw the real reality. eBay *IS* that way, and they did some false promotion because they aren't about fixed products.

They are absolutely auctions, biggest ones next to uBid. And they don't want it to be something else.

And I think it's stretching it to say that I OFFER isn't anything but more or less the polar opposite to eBay. I know alot of people that moved there etc.

Yet that marketplace has been around a long time and since its basically an open flea market, its much more accurate to say that I offer is a competitor to craigslist in a huge way *NOT* eBay's auctions. Everything at I Offer sells at a fixed price, as I got going with it more that's what I saw & its what sells the most and the quickest. They're just like Amazon and these others which fit a specific need and that's it.

But they are not the same selling model.

In my opinion, if you are looking online for products to dropship, you won't find much that you can profit from on eBay. Dropshipping can work - however, try to find a local business or businesses (your own area) that has products they are wanting to shift and who would be happy for you to sell for them. Many businesses have unsold product in their warehouses that just hasn't moved in their usual market for one reason or another. Look through your local newspaper or yellow pages for businesses in your area that you could contact either face to face or on the phone. Some may be happy for you to shift their excess stock and would gladly take the orders and ship direct from their warehouse for you. If you can do this, negotiate a good percentage of profit for yourself. The profit doing this would be more than you'd make from a so-called dropshipper who advertises online.

Further to the above. Think outside the box when looking for products locally. Don't just consider the 'sexy' products like electronics and appliances. There are all sorts of weird and wonderful products which could sell, from small craft items, fabrics, curtains and cushions, right up through plumbing supplies, flooring, tiles, garden supplies, tools, home improvement products, etc.
