Best way to sell on ebay

Hi guys,

I've been experimenting with the best ways to sell on ebay. Obviously, I want to try to minimize the fees and sell at a price that would be profitable. I'm just curious as to how everyone else sells their products. Do you guys prefer bidding or listing it at a set sale price? I tried listing my products at a starting bid of 99 cents with free shipping hoping that the auction price would cover the shipping. I took a loss on my products, not a huge loss, but definitely no profit. I got a lot of interest in my products but not enough to profit. Any suggestions?

I still do a little selling on ebay. Not as much as we used to. Right now we run on average 200 auctions a month with a 94% sell through rate. We start all of our auctions at $1.00 unless we have a notion the item might not sell for much.

The only way to safely get good profits is of course to have products that did not cost you much in the first place. Buying in bulk liquidations is the best. Pallets or multiple pallets as you have a large amount of items and the bad sales will balance with the good sales. If your dropshipping your kind of stuck in a bad place. Your item has to sell for so much or you will loose money.

If you are in that situation it would be best for you to list at a fixed price on several different venues. Eg use ebay,craigslist and several other auction sites to sell that item at a fixed price.

But ultimately you really need to move into liquidations as the profit margins are much better then if you were to buy dropship items or higher priced goods.

If you are going to be listing a lot of items you may want to consider a shop layout also.

They tend to have cheaper listing fees, but they get you at the back door on the way out with more expensive selling fees. Of course the shop layout would allow you to list stock items cheaply if you were going to list at a BUY IT NOW......

Shop layouts definitely aren't for everyone, but don't discount one as an option without checking them out, one might suit your selling requirements.

I would say make sure your selling on amazon too if your going to sell at a fixed price. You will get more view on amazon then in an ebay store.

I agree with Jimmy, if your not utilizing Amazon, you are missing out. I have actually gotten super lucky, the last two shipments from ***deleted by moderator*** have sold before i can actually get any of the items listed...thanks again Jimmy. I guess I am now ready for Pallet orders. Talk soon.

but I am still confused on how to start selling at eBay. I can't think of any user ID to suit my supplies . Do I need a website for my product . If yes, how do I find someone to help me. How do I know the best selling products to buy for sell? Pls, help and thanks a lot.

This is one thing I love about liquidations. I really dont need to choose a specific category to sell. There is so much you can get from liquidations you dont need to be specific.

As far as choosing a name pick something, I picked Products Plus for my company because we dont specialize in just a set product line. We supply all kinds of different products.

Awesome Im glad to hear that. I have had a couple others say their packs are going well on Amazon too. Amazon is getting very popular these days especially with Ebay making every seller think twice before they sell there.

So far I am out $300 and some odd dollars in ebay listing fees and 1 sale. I am thinking of setting up a website instead, no fees and you can market it more. Ebay has strict limits on marketing. I notice people on this forum recommending Amazon.com. How does one advertise there from ebay. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can turn my business around and start selling. I sell anything to do with children. Thanks, Nancy

I would recommend a Clean slate and get away from Ebay. Ebays getting worse right now as the days go by. Ebay is making changes to become more like Amazon because they know Amazon has taken alot of Ebays top power sellers including myself. Only problem is I think the changes are a bit too late. Amazon is making it more simple for a seller to make a transaction. Its also got the best buyer protection of any site online. Which make a buyer more comfortable to pay more for that item versus risking money on ebay.

Ebays Shares have dropped 24% Funny thing is Amazons has jumped 17% since eBay made their changes. So we know for a fact many of the sellers Ebay lost went to amazon.

Starting on amazon is fairly simple and the traffic is awesome. Also you can sell at your own price. You can experiment as selling a few listings is free. And if you like it get an account and pay the monthly fee and start selling hardcore.

You wont regret it.

Im actually trying to push many of my Pack buyers away from ebay right now because the profits are much better on amazon. Ebay is a bargain basement right now.

Im not saying ebay is going to die or anything like that. But they are going through major changes. Until these changes are complete and they get their system more stable its not the best place to sell anything if you want maximum profits. Ebay will always be a strong company but during this transition phase is a very volatile market.
