How do you get business name and tax ID's online?

Ok this is probably a stupid question but here we go. I'm a new member and I need to know where online to get a business name and tax ID so I can deal with whole sellers. Thanks to all that reply.

You can register a business with your secretary of state. Go to you states website and you can download the form there. If you want a sole proprietership, you can just use your full name. The tax id you can get at Link hidden: Login to view. It is free and you can do it by phone or online. Hope this helps.

I'm sure i want a sole proprietership. Do i want to Incorporate or LLC or what. Remember i want to start a online resale biz. Not for sure what to name my co. or the words to use in the name, like hawks resale or something. Also is there anything i need to do now (when getting co. name) with regards to buying in bulk lots. Probably not thought i'd ask. Anyways i went to the state site you put up and not sure what type of biz or button to hit on the web site. Thanks so much for the info bud!

My personal preference is a Limited Liability Company (LLC) It has the tax advantages of a sole propriator ship, or parternship if there is more than two people, and offers great legal protection of your personal assets.
