Everybody loves a deal. Retailers regularly have sales and discount days because consumers are drawn to a clearance, like moths to a bug zapper — this is where they make a killing.

The same principle applies for online sellers, and for those who sell their products on established merchant websites like Amazon. They can create custom promotional codes or coupons for a product easily and make it readily accessible to a large volume of potential customers.

On Amazon, registered customers can find your super deal in “Today’s Deals” right off the bat.

Making Use of Amazon Promotional Codes

Setting up a promotion, however, is not the same as running one. While Amazon does have a large customer base, so does your competition. You'll only be getting nibbles and bites from the people unless you have a competitive edge.

It's unnecessarily limiting to set up a store in a crowded marketplace with no unique selling point (USP), especially when you can do so much more.

What you want to do instead is market and sell products to those who may not regularly go to Amazon (there are still a few), or those who may not be thinking of buying. Once you find these folks, it's time to create brand awareness.

At the same time, you want to inform your existing customers of great opportunities to save some money and create brand loyalty. Here are some ways to market and sell your products using Amazon promotional codes.

E-Newsletters

When you sell on Amazon, you're able to redirect customers to your website to conclude a sale. You can use your website to promote your products as well as other Amazon products if you're an affiliate. In other words, you can make money from your own products as well as from promoting other products on Amazon. A good way to use Amazon promotional codes to make money is to send newsletters to your email list at least once a month.

In the newsletter, you can encourage them to check out the products by featuring the current promotion. Make sure that when they click on the link, they head to your website first, because Amazon will pay you a commission for all sales originating from your website, up to 24 hours after the customer initially clicks the link. If they aren't already registered with your website, this is a good way to acquire new potential customers.

Social Networks

Social networks are an excellent medium for generating awareness of, and interest in, your brand and website. Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn are the biggest players out there. So make use of them to spread the word of any current Amazon promotional codes you may be running.

You can provide access by placing a link on your Facebook wall or Twitter feed. This will appear in the newsfeed of your fans and followers, and hopefully get into their friends' feeds as well. If you're lucky, then they in turn will like your page or follow you to get access to Amazon promotional codes. Twitter in particular is great for time-sensitive promotions.

Blogs

To spread the word about your website, you need to make the effort to establish relationships with other, relevant sites within your niche. A good place to do this is in blogs and forums that focus on your industry. Posting comments, reviews, and answering inquiries can establish your credibility and generate trust in your target market.

Once you've built trust, people are more likely to take recommendations from you seriously, especially if you also post about discounts and deals available from other sellers you're affiliated with. Those who click on your links may not actually buy the product you're recommending, but any purchase they make after coming from your website will still be credited to you.

Coupon Sites

There are a lot of sites and mobile apps that specialize in combing the web for coupons and promotional codes for the benefit of the users. Creating a promotion on Amazon means, in all likelihood, you'll be included in the list provided by sites such as RetailMeNot.

You can become more prominent in the listings if you have a high success rating (lots of click-throughs), so make sure that you promote the hell out of whatever you're selling to generate more interest. Coupon websites are affiliates and earn a commission for each sale, so you can be sure they'll want to feature your most recent big-ticket items on offer.

This is a great discount strategy if you are working on selling on Amazon.

Generating Amazon Promotional Codes

All registered Amazon sellers can take advantage of the "manage promotions" feature of the website. If you've never run a promo on Amazon before, then you are missing out on a great opportunity to make money.

Since I just can't bear to see you missing out on such fantastic money-making enterprises, here are the basic steps for generating Amazon promotional codes:

  1. Log in to your seller account.
  2. Find the "Advertising" link, click on it and choose "Manage Promotions."
  3. Click on “Create” for the promotion type you want. These are basically three types:
    • Money Off
    • Buy One Take One
    • External Benefit
  4. Follow the steps for creating your custom promotion.
    • Establish conditions to qualify for the promotion, such as the purchase threshold, and the product/s included in the promotion.
    • Choose the start and end dates for the promotion.
    • Create a promotional code by selecting “Claim Code” and choosing among the options available. You can create your own code or direct the system to generate a code for you.
    • Review your promotion. If you are satisfied with it, click “Submit.”

Discount strategies and promotions have historically boosted sales, whether you are on the brick-and-mortar or click-and-mortar side of the retailing spectrum. It rewards and encourages repeat customers, and is a great way to introduce the brand to new ones. The Internet has merely made it easier for retailers to use these marketing tools to reach more people faster, and that works out well for both buyers and sellers. However, the success of any promotion depends on how many people know about it. If you have available Amazon promotional codes for your products or those of your affiliates, you really should spread the word using whatever medium is available.

Eg. I'm affiliate marketer. If I will contact to seller and ask them to generate the promo code for their product & then I will create the link of that product and share that promo code. So, in this case can I get the commission along with providing discount or promo code ?

      Hello Pratik,

Based on the info provided on Amazon, you should get the commission -

"When website owners and bloggers who are Associates create links and customers click through those links and buy products from Amazon, they earn referral fees. ... Provide customers the convenience of referring them to a trusted site where they can immediately purchase the products you advertise on your site."

      Hope this helps!

    Hey Emi,
It's very informative post to learn the using of discount codes. I'm impressed with your post.
I am also checking different websites which where people can get discount vouchers so now my mind is also converted to build own affiliate data feeds websites. discount vouchers are really very helpful to save huge amount. Last week I had seen a UK based website which offers affiliate data feeds with their RevEmbed technology revglue(.)com/publisher/revembed. They offers 80% commission on data feeds. So I want to confirm about this website because I didn't have any idea about this website.
I am looking forward to your new posts about the using cashback and coupons etc in the future.
So please share any information about this website.

If you want the promotion to be displayed on your detail page, ensure the box titled “Detail page display text” is checked. You can then edit the following fields to customize the text that is shown to customers:

Checkout Display Text: Shown to the buyer in the checkout phase
Purchased Items Display Text: The name of items in the promotion, used in the detail page display text (i.e. Water Bottles, Gold Water Bottles)
Detail Page Display Text: The text that is shown under the “Promotions and Special Offers” section of the product detail page (i.e. Save 15% on Gold Water Bottles offered by XYZ Shops when you purchase 2 or more.)

Thanks to you I learned a lot today about Amazon Promo codes and I owe my shift from interest to you. I have become Amazon Affiliate not too long ago, and already promoting products from Amazon on my site. However, when I'm on the Amazon central page, as an associate, I do see many opportunities such as one you wrote about. What I still don't get in this Promo codes is that:

    1) Say I copy the coupon code for a product being promoted and sent it to my website contents, what would I do with it when at my site? Knowing that I wrote reviews on many of the products on the site from which are part of Amazon affiliate program

    2) Am I to write a whole new page review for every promo code?

    3) My third question goes to ask if any of these involve in HTML expertise?

Nice post brother, I have been surfing online more than 3 hours today, yet I never found
any interesting article like yours. It is pretty worth
enough for me. In my view, if all web owners and bloggers made good content
as you did, the internet will be much more useful than ever before.
There is certainly a lot to know about this issue.

I love all of the points you’ve made. I am sure this post
has touched all the internet viewers, its really really good post on building up new weblog.
